Overview

The mission of Â黨ÊÓƵ is to develop men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership and service. A private historically Black liberal arts college for men, Â黨ÊÓƵ realizes this mission by emphasizing the intellectual and character development of its students. In addition, the HBCU college assumes special responsibility for teaching the history and culture of Black people.   — Â黨ÊÓƵ Mission Statement 

The Â黨ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees seeks an inspirational, innovative, and strategic leader to serve as the institution’s 13th president. Founded in 1867, Â黨ÊÓƵ is a private liberal arts college with a distinguished legacy of developing Black male leaders who excel academically, lead with integrity, and create meaningful social impact. 

The next president of Â黨ÊÓƵ will assume leadership of an institution that has achieved significant momentum over the past seven years, with strengthened finances, record enrollment, and growing national prominence. This is a call for a leader equipped to advance an ambitious vision for the future of the College, cultivate substantial investments to realize that vision, enhance the operational and academic enterprise of an exemplary liberal arts institution, and continue Â黨ÊÓƵ’s renowned tradition of producing academically exceptional, morally grounded, and service-oriented leaders for a rapidly evolving world.

Updates and the Tentative Timeline for the Presidential Search Process

• August 14, 2024: Search Chair Fred Humphries '83 convened a meeting to discuss next steps with selecting an executive search firm to assist. The committee is assisted by Trustee Emeritus Dale Jones ‘82 in a volunteer advisor role and staffed by Dr. TJ Snowden, chief of staff to President Thomas.
• September 2024: 
  • All submitted Request for Proposals (RFPs) from search firms nationwide were reviewed and three finalists were interviewed by the search committee. 
• October 2024:
  • The search committee signed a contract with the search firm Isaacson, Miller (IM) to lead the presidential search process. 
  • The IM team was introduced to the Board of Trustees. 
  • IM was announced as the search firm of record and the presidential search web page was published for public availability. 
• November 2024:
  • In November, Isaacson, Miller and the search committee hosted 17 small group and town hall-style listening sessions, virtually and in person, to gain feedback and insights from Â黨ÊÓƵ alumni, students, faculty, and staff. 
    • Additionally, IM and the search committee continues to receive feedback via the stakeholder engagement survey and the presidential search website.
• December 2024
  • IM and the search committee are currently analyzing all stakeholder feedback received during the listening phase, along with a broad range of institutional data, strategic goals for the College, as well as benchmarks and best practices in higher education leadership to develop a comprehensive position profile that will guide the search for the 13th president of Â黨ÊÓƵ.
    
    
• January 2025:
  • The formal position profile was published on January 2, 2025 and the application is open for candidate submissions.  
    
    
• Continued Tentative Timelines:
  • Through Spring 2025: IM will advise how the committee will best engage the Â黨ÊÓƵ community for feedback to be considered in the selection process and, when ready, advise on the announcement for the new president. 
  • By June 2025: The search committee intends to identify and announce the 13th President of Â黨ÊÓƵ.
